The station is serviced by a variety of visiting spacecraft: the Russian Soyuz and Progress, the SpaceX Dragon 2, and the Northrop Grumman Space Systems Cygnus, and formerly the European Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), the Japanese H-II Transfer Vehicle, and SpaceX Dragon 1. Major ISS modules have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets and US Space Shuttles. The ISS consists of pressurised habitation modules, structural trusses, photovoltaic solar arrays, thermal radiators, docking ports, experiment bays and robotic arms. There have been calls to privatize ISS operations after that point to pursue future Moon and Mars missions, with former NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine stating: "given our current budget constraints, if we want to go to the moon and we want to go to Mars, we need to commercialize low Earth orbit and go on to the next step." In January 2022, the station's operation authorization was extended to 2030, with funding secured through that year. Development and assembly of the station continues, with an experimental inflatable space habitat added in 2016, and several major new Russian elements scheduled for launch starting in 2021. The latest major pressurised module, Nauka, was fitted in 2021, a little over ten years after the previous major addition, Leonardo in 2011. The station has since been continuously occupied for 21 years and 238 days, the longest continuous human presence in low Earth orbit, having surpassed the previous record of 9 years and 357 days held by the Mir space station. The first ISS component was launched in 1998, and the first long-term residents arrived on 2 November 2000 after being launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 31 October 2000. However, continued cooperation has been rendered uncertain by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and subsequent international sanctions on Russia, who theoretically, may lower, redirect, or cut funding their side of the space station due to the sanctions set on them. Roscosmos had endorsed the continued operation of ROS through 2024, having previously proposed using elements of the segment to construct a new Russian space station called OPSEK. The US segment includes ten modules, whose support services are distributed 76.6% for NASA, 12.8% for JAXA, 8.3% for ESA and 2.3% for CSA. The Russian segment includes six modules. The station is divided into two sections: the Russian Orbital Segment (ROS) is operated by Russia, while the United States Orbital Segment (USOS) is run by the United States as well as by the other states. The ISS circles the Earth in roughly 93 minutes, completing 15.5 orbits per day. It maintains an orbit with an average altitude of 400 kilometres (250 mi) by means of reboost manoeuvres using the engines of the Zvezda Service Module or visiting spacecraft. It is the largest artificial object in space and the largest satellite in low Earth orbit, regularly visible to the naked eye from Earth's surface. The ISS is the ninth space station to be inhabited by crews, following the Soviet and later Russian Salyut, Almaz, and Mir stations and the American Skylab. The ISS programme evolved from the Space Station Freedom, a 1984 American proposal to construct a permanently manned Earth-orbiting station, and the contemporaneous Soviet/Russian Mir-2 proposal from 1976 with similar aims. The ISS is suited for testing the spacecraft systems and equipment required for possible future long-duration missions to the Moon and Mars. The station serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which scientific research is conducted in astrobiology, astronomy, meteorology, physics, and other fields. ![]() The ownership and use of the space station is established by intergovernmental treaties and agreements. ![]() It is a multinational collaborative project involving five participating space agencies: NASA (United States), Roscosmos (Russia), JAXA (Japan), ESA (Europe), and CSA (Canada). The International Space Station ( ISS) is a modular space station (habitable artificial satellite) in low Earth orbit.

This was done during the Summer of 1961 as to help the season one shows fit in with the new look the show had taken during the following season. In the future of Black Mirror, technology has set us, which is to say we have set ourselves, a perfect trap. This is one of several episodes from season one with its opening title sequence plastered over with the opening for season two. ![]() What they reveal of human nature is not new but newly captured. The stories set archetypal human dilemmas-death, identity, fidelity-within an entirely new context, which is exactly how we are living them. There are high-handed moments and a schematic quality basic to its project, but overall the show is earnestly and intelligently, imaginatively engaged with its times, which makes it-ironically, given the central indictment of spectatorship-hard to look away. What’s caught in its dark reflection might look a lot like you. Which can make Black Mirror pretty tough to watch. Instead he shows it already at work in ordinary lives rather than extraneous, the details are treated as lesser points of something inevitable. He does so without going into background or functional detail about the conceit itself-who developed the technology, and why or how it really works. Elsewhere, Brooker takes current technological and social media trends to eerie and occasionally sickening extremes. “The National Anthem” and another politically flavored episode, “The Waldo Moment,” about a blue, animated, gremlin-like pundit’s role as both product of and participant in a debased political process, take place in what could be the present, and are even more caustic than the rest. The public, wondering if this is, in fact, the new reality, fills pubs and gathers around workplace televisions to find out. Leaks, polls, and online chaos conspire against the PM, as does a bitter sense of national passivity. In the most outrageous example, “The National Anthem,” the British Prime Minister is coerced into having sex with a pig on live television. Is the technology to blame? Is omniscience really the goal of human endeavor? If we can know, does that mean we should?īeneath each episode runs a critique of the unquestioning ease with which we have incorporated information-based technologies into our lives, and into social, cultural, and political infrastructures. I came across the film on television, as a kid, some time after its 1983 release, and stuck around long enough only to watch John Lithgow lose his mind in **George Miller’**s take on the William Shatner classic “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.” On a long flight, Lithgow becomes convinced that there is a gremlin on the airplane’s wing. Apart from buying another lens (probably the sigma 60mm, as it was close to the 2x crop vivitar 35mm. Sadly, I don't think those exist and definitely not with auto focus communication which is essential.Īnyhow, I spent my day screwing around with the lens/extension tube combinations and am a little dissapointed that none of the things I have tried give me usable results. I had the success with the 25mm with ONE 10mm extension tube, but I feel like if i could somehow get my hands on a 5-8mm extension tube (somewhere in that range), I could be able to focus and frame the whole picture using my 20mm panasonic. Then tried the 20mm and found out at the focus point with any combination of extension rings cuts off the corners of the image. In addition to this, there was severe cromatic abberation on the photo as well which may be from the light underneath? I dunno but for some reason I doubt it. This worked (finally), but the edges were very, very soft regardless of the aperture used ( I know that extension rings cause the DOF to be very shallow, so I shot accordingly). I put a bunch of step up rings on the front of my 25mm panasonic, and rested the end of the tube on a slide, with my phone underneath to ensure everything was perfectly flat. ![]() I will eventually get a proper light table once I figure out my focus issue. I know that this isn't ideal as you can see the pixel grid through, but I used it for testing. I then said to hell with the es-1 and decided to use my phone as a light table. The 35mm vivitar lens allowed me to focus with the es-1 attached, but it is quite a terrible lens, and really not able to give me usable results. I had the same issue with focusing there. I then tried various tube combinations with some old lenses, like an old 50mm Zuiko, which of course is 100mm on MFT. So unfortunately the es-1 did not work with either of these lenses. Out of the 2 lenses, I found the 20mm works better with macro and seems to be sharper across the frame. My 2 native lenses are the 20mm 1.7 and the 25mm 1.4. I have seen one post here on the forum with the 60mm macro and, extra spacing was required between the lens and the es-1 adapter. I first bought a nikon es-1, which unfortunately doesn't work with my setup as the focus point with whatever combination of rings is closer than the minimum size of the es-1 tube. I feel ya friend.First of all, I have various macro tubes and have tried various combinations without result. So give it a try and tell me what you think! Or think about it, contemplate it, and then come back to me in a few years …. Lots of calming, quiet play is heading our way. I also found some file folders that were made of that thin, see-through coloured plastic and cut out various shapes. Next, I lined the interior of the container with tin foil – the bottom and the sides, and secured with clear packing tape. This was in fact the only purchase I made – hence the $15 cost. I ended up buying a clear Rubbermaid container with a clear lid. Super easy, super inexpensive, and it couldn’t work better. In the end, I am thrilled with how our Light Table turned out. Tinkerlab’s tutorial was really good, but I did a little modifying. I read quite a few tutorials over the years:Īnd Next Comes L has SO many cool activities to do on the light table, and a great tutorial – but I wanted super simple YEARS of contemplating - tons of time dreaming about the activities we could do - and it all took a grand total of 10 minutes. Taking place over six stages – and one hidden final battle – which introduce the original core characters that were available to players back when the game first released in 2017, the story mode here is a short and simple affair which nevertheless does a decent job of setting the scene and providing a little background to the cast's motivations for kicking each other's pans in. The land of Aether, in which Dan Fornace's game is set, is divided into warring civilizations of animal fighters who've been tricked into facing off against each other by a shadowy Lovecraftian fiend. Here is a carefully crafted, deep and addictive 16-bit platform fighter that takes the base influence of Nintendo's brawling behemoth and runs off in its own direction, resulting in a brawler that cuts away a lot of faff and theatre and gets down to some surprisingly hardcore and competitive business. However, Rivals of Aether is an experience that's just about as far removed from that mess as is perhaps possible within (or without) the confines of a genre.
